How do I make an electricity contract with Cheap Energy?

It’s easy as pie. Start by selecting the electricity contract you want from our website. Then click the green order button, and you will be directed to the order form. Fill in your details and confirm the order electronically using your online banking credentials. You will receive an email from us once your order has been processed.

Question 2

When will my electricity contract start?

Accepted Answer

Your electricity contract will transfer to Cheap Energy under the current contract’s terms. When you switch your electricity provider, your contract can start at the earliest 15 days from the switch.

Can I make changes to my contract?

Accepted Answer

This is possible, under certain conditions. You can make changes to your electricity contract yourself online: compare contracts here, choose the type of contract you want, proceed to the order form and select "I am an existing customer" on the form.

A fixed-term electricity contract binds both us and you for the entire contract period, so you can only make changes once the fixed-term period ends. If you are moving, please contact our customer service, and we’ll help to sort out your electricity for your new home. In case of a move, you can either modify or terminate your fixed-term contract.

Question 4

What happens when my fixed-term contract ends?

Accepted Answer

When the fixed-term contract period ends, taking you haven't made changes, your contract will continue as an open-ended one. If you want, you can compare electricity providers at this point, allowing you to switch contract types or electricity suppliers with a 14-day transition period.

We’ll send you a reminder one month before your fixed-term period ends, and you might also receive a little surprise along with the message! So stay tuned!

Can I make a contract on behalf of someone else?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can! You’ll need a power of attorney signed by the person in question.

How do I switch electricity sellers?

Accepted Answer

It’s easy! Order a new electricity contract from the electricity contracts page, and Cheap Energy, your new electricity provider, will take care of all matters related to switching suppliers on your behalf. So, you don’t need to cancel your old electricity contract separately, as long as it's at the same address as the new contract.

Question 7

I have solar panels, how will they be taken into account in my electricity contract?

Accepted Answer

You can sell the surplus from your solar panels to us when signing your electricity contract. We’ll buy your surplus at the spot price of the Finnish market (fee 0,31 c/kWh, incl. VAT 25,5%, no fixed charges). So, make sure to tick the solar electricity sales box when making your electricity contract.

Why am I receiving two bills?

Accepted Answer

There are electricity sales companies and electricity distribution companies. Cheap Energy is an electricity sales company and only charges you for the electricity you consume. The local electricity distribution company is responsible for electricity transfer and will bill you separately. You can search for a more competitive electricity contract, but not for another transfer company.

I want to make an e-invoice, how?

Accepted Answer

You can conveniently order your electricity bill as an e-invoice directly to your online bank. After receiving your first bill, you’ll find the necessary details on the bill to activate e-invoicing in your online bank. Many banks have a button in their online banking system where you can order an e-invoice.

I accidentally paid my bill twice, what should I do?

Accidents happen. Please contact our billing partner Ropo’s customer service directly about overpayments at the MyRopo-app or call 09 4246 1379.

Why am I getting a payment reminder in my email?

Accepted Answer

Our billing partner Ropo has introduced electronic payment reminders. If you forget to pay your bill, you’ll receive a notification in the same channel where you received the original bill. Electronic reminders will initially be introduced with email bills, and later extended to other billing channels.

A payment reminder is sent after the bill is overdue. If you receive a payment reminder, please pay the bill promptly.

Electronic reminders are a convenient way to ensure that an unpaid bill doesn’t go unnoticed. The reminder is delivered quickly, allowing you to react immediately to an unpaid bill. The electronic reminder is also an environmentally friendly option and helps reduce errors since information doesn’t need to be entered manually.

Handelsbanken's merger to S-Bank: will e-invoices and direct payment agreements transfer automatically?

Handelsbanken is merging with S-Bank in the beginning of December 2024.

If you have an e-invoice with Handelsbanken and your banking is transferring to S-Bank, you will need to set up a new e-invoice agreement with S-Bank yourself. Cheap Energy's e-invoice agreement will not automatically transfer from Handelsbanken to S-Bank.
If you have a direct payment agreement with Handelsbanken, it will automatically transfer to S-Bank on behalf of the bank. Therefore, you do not need to set up a new direct payment agreement.

I am moving, how do I make an electricity contract for the new address?

What’s the difference between electricity sales and electricity transfer?

There are electricity sales companies and electricity distribution companies.

The electricity seller offers different electricity contract options to customers and charges for the electricity consumed per kWh. Cheap Energy is an electricity seller, and we offer various cheap electricity contracts. Electricity contracts can be compared, and for that, we offer cheap electricity contracts for different life situations. The invoices from Cheap Energy only concern the sale of electricity.

Electricity transfer is provided by the local electricity distribution company, which ensures that electricity is delivered to your home via the power grid and maintains the electrical networks. The local electricity distribution company charges separately for the transfer according to its own price list. The distribution company is determined by the location of your home, based on your address. Therefore, the distribution company cannot be chosen, and electricity transfer cannot be compared.

The My Pages -service is Cheap Energy's own online service. Currently, you can see your bills and electrcitity consumption details by logging in. We are, nonetheless, developing the service further so stay tuned!

How do I log in to the My Pages -service?

Accepted Answer

Let's be careful - on the first time you'll log in by using strong authentication. This means logging in using either your Finnish bank credentials or mobile ID. You'll create yourself a profile and in the future, you can log in quickly with your email. After giving us your email address, you'll receive a 4-digit code. Type in the code and log in.

Does Cheap Energy have an app?

Cheap Energy doesn’t have a mobile app in Finland - the app available in app stores is for customers in Sweden. We are developing services for Finland!

Customers of spot-priced electricity can follow the prices by downloading Fingrid’s Tuntihinta app from the Apple Store or Google Play.
